Today, information is much harder to keep locked up so, propaganda has become more difficult to recognize. It no longer comes in the forms or posters, cartoons, or newsreels. Propaganda can include anti-smoking and pro-smoking ads, political ads, and adds for certain other campaigns such as anti-vaccination. The images below are all examples of modern day propaganda. They all share a similar purpose, to convey their message and get others to believe it.
What's Different?
Today we view all types of propaganda on our phones, computer, and TV screens. We have very abruptly moved from the internet being used as an occasional tool, to something we use to communicate daily. We have very quickly begun using the internet and social media for long portions of our days, mainly during our "leisure" hours.
Because of this, propaganda has become very popular online. While we think we may not be paying attention to a photo on our timelines or an add before a youtube video our brain is still analyzing the image. This means that we are unconsciously being subjected to a new type of "digital propaganda".
